Workshop on Changes in Escalator/Moving Walkway Standards

“The workshop titled "Changes in Escalator/Moving Walkway Standards" was held on January 18, 2019, at the Tepekule Congress and Exhibition Center in Izmir.

A workshop was held at the İzmir branch of the Chamber of Mechanical Engineers (MMO) to mark the entry into force of the TS EN 115-1:2017 Safety for Escalators and Moving Walkways - Part 1: Construction and Installation standard on January 31, 2019.

In addition to the Occupational Safety and Health Institute (İSGÜM) – Work Equipment Unit, 38 representatives from the Turkish Ministry of Industry and Technology, Turkish Standards Institute (TSE), Chamber of Electrical Engineers (EMO) of the Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB), Unite Elevator and Escalator Industry and Trade Inc., Löher Elevator Industry and Trade Inc., Buga Otis Elevator Industry and Trade Inc., Schindler Türkeli Elevator Industry Inc., Kone Elevator Industry and Trade Inc., Ake Elevator Materials Marketing Ltd. Co., Thyssenkrupp Elevator Industry and Trade Inc., and Hyundai Elevator Türkiye participated.

During the workshop, significant changes in standards such as the design of escalators and moving walkways exposed to seismic conditions were discussed, as well as periodic inspections of escalators/moving walkways and the conditions for placing escalators/moving walkways on the market after January 31, 2019, under the 2006/42/EC Machinery Safety Directive. It was decided that the workshop's final report, which includes recommendations, would be sent to relevant institutions and organizations.
