ADRENALIN – Data-Driven Smart Buildings Project
ADRENALIN, It aims to facilitate the digital transformation of the existing building stock by creating and implementing data-driven applications that can optimize energy use.
ADRENALIN aims to develop machine learning and intelligent control algorithms that will enable or improve new data services such as flexible heating and cooling control with the ability to automatically program and adjust demand according to price signals from the energy system while protecting users.
ADRENALIN will organize competitions for crowdsourced solutions to specific data challenges by collecting a large and diverse pool of measurement data from real buildings (data virtual space). The best-performing solutions will be implemented in real-life conditions on the digital platforms of partner companies to test their overall validity and repeatability and demonstrate real-life performance.

ADRENALIN: Data-Driven Smart Buildings
ADRENALIN is a data-driven smart building approach that develops machine learning and intelligent control algorithms to accelerate the digital transformation of the existing building stock. Its main goal is to transform real-time measurement data collected from buildings into meaningful energy services; dynamically managing energy demand while preserving user comfort.
What does it do?
- Data analysis: It collects large-scale measurement data from real buildings and breaks down energy usage (e.g., into heating and cooling components).
- Intelligent algorithms: It dynamically manages energy demand and provides flexibility by responding to price/grid signals.
- Comfort guaranteed: It works in a way that increases flexibility while preserving the comfort of building users.
For whom is it valuable?
- Cities, regions, and campuses that implement energy management.
- Building operations operators and facilities managers
- Energy distribution/transmission companies
- Data science and energy solution providers
