Explosive Atmosphere Equipment (ATEX/Ex-Proof)

AES Innovation provides inspection, zone classification, and legal compliance consultancy services for explosive atmosphere (ATEX/Ex-proof) equipment under IEC 60079. Services are accredited by TÜRKAK (Turkish Accreditation Agency).

Electrical equipment used in environments containing flammable gases or dusts, such as oil and gas plants, chemical factories, paint and solvent storage facilities, and mines, is subject to much stricter safety requirements than standard equipment.

AES Innovation provides expert engineering services for the selection, installation, and periodic inspection of explosive atmosphere (Ex) equipment, in accordance with the IEC 60079 series of standards and the ATEX Directive.

WHY AES INNOVATION?

Why is Ex-Proof Inspection Necessary?

Equipment used in explosive atmospheres is manufactured with different protection methods such as powder filling “q”, enhanced safety “e”, and naturally occurring safety “i”, and it is mandatory that these protective properties are maintained without deterioration over time in the field. In Türkiye, according to the ATEX Directive (2014/34/EU) and the Regulation on Explosive Atmospheres in Workplaces (30.04.2013/ÇSGB), periodic inspection of equipment used in Explosive zones is a legal obligation.

Our Scope of Services

Frequently Asked Questions

Oil and gas refineries, LPG filling stations, chemical factories, coal mines, grain and sugar silos, paint and solvent production facilities, and timber processing plants are legally required to use Ex-Proof equipment due to the presence of flammable gases, vapors, or dust. In these facilities, Zone 0/1/2 (gas) or Zone 20/21/22 (dust) areas must be identified, and equipment in the appropriate category for each zone must be selected.

According to the Occupational Health and Safety Law No. 6331 and the Regulation on Health and Safety Conditions in the Use of Work Equipment, periodic inspections of explosive atmosphere equipment must be carried out at least once a year. The scope of the inspection includes visual, close and detailed inspection levels according to the EN 60079-17 standard; more frequent intervals may be applied in critical areas such as Zone 0 and Zone 20 where the risk is high.

No. Inspection of explosive atmosphere equipment must be carried out by competent engineers who have received specialized training in explosion protection principles, protection types, and related standards under IEC 60079-17. AES Innovation, with its TÜRKAK TS EN ISO/IEC 17020:2012 Type A accreditation, provides services as a fully authorized and independent inspection body in this field.
