Fire Installation Inspections

You can contact us now to learn more about our services.

Fire extinguishing systems are critical infrastructure for saving lives, forming the first line of response to fire risks in buildings and industrial facilities. The failure of these systems—such as sprinkler systems, fire hoses, fire hydrants, fire cabinets, and fire pump stations—to function properly in the event of an emergency can thwart firefighting efforts and lead to disaster.

Fire extinguishing system inspections are a legal requirement mandated by the Occupational Health and Safety Law and the Regulation on Fire Protection of Buildings. As AES Innovation, we provide fire safety services to businesses in Izmir and the Aegean Region with our TÜRKAK accredited services.

Fire Installation Inspection

Occupational Safety Critical Component and TURKAK Accredited Periodic Inspection

TURKAK Accredited Fire Installation Inspection

The answer to the question of how to conduct a fire extinguishing system inspection is a systematic protocol that includes visual inspection, mechanical tests, pressure measurements, and functional checks. The inspection should comprehensively examine all components, starting from the fire pump station and extending to the water tank, piping, hydrants, sprinkler heads, fire cabinets, and detection system.

Comprehensive Test Protocol

How to Perform a Fire Installation Inspection

01

Visual Inspection and Physical Examination

In the first stage, the physical condition of the fire extinguishing system components is examined in detail. The integrity of the water tank, the condition of rust, the level of sedimentation, and the condition of the cover are checked. In the pumping station, the motor, pump housing, fittings, suction and discharge pipes are inspected. Pressure gauges, manometers, and flow meters are checked.

In fire hydrant systems, corrosion and leak checks are performed on the pipelines. Hydrant heads, flange connections, and cover mechanisms are inspected. In fire hose cabinets, the condition of the hoses, outer covers, and plates are checked.

02

Sprinkler System Periodic Inspection TS EN 12845

Sprinkler system periodic inspections are carried out according to the TS EN 12845 standard. In the first stage, sprinkler heads are tested by visual inspection; rust, deformation, and tube hardness are checked. The performance characteristics of the sprinkler heads, thermal triggering temperature, and protection area adequacy are verified.

Water flow rate measurement tests whether the system pump can deliver the flow rate considered during design. Pressure measurements verify that the system pressure meets the specifications in the project. Alarm tests and fire extinguishing valve operations are also performed.

03

Fire Pump Flow Pressure Test

Fire pump flow pressure testing is a critical test that determines whether the pump can deliver its nominal flow and pressure values. The pump curve is created by testing the pump under various flow and pressure combinations. Insulation resistance, motor, and pump mechanism are also checked.

The motor starting current and operating current are measured; overloads are detected. The pump housing and suction and discharge pipes are checked under pressure; if any leaks are observed, the pump must be repaired.

04

Fire Cabinets TS EN 671 Standard

Fire cabinets must comply with TS EN 671-1 (semi-rigid hose) or TS EN 671-2 (flat hose) standards. During periodic inspections, the cabinets are tested for openability, hose winding status, and the functionality of the opening and closing lance.
Hose pressure and flow rate are measured; it is verified that they comply with the design specifications. Colored markings, warning signs, and the safety of the cabinet being closed are checked. The effectiveness and expiration date of any fire extinguishers (such as a 6kg ABC cylinder) that may be inside the cabinet are checked.

05

Fire Installation Systems: Legal Requirements and Occupational Safety

Fire extinguishing systems are a legal requirement stemming from the Occupational Health and Safety Law No. 6331. The responsibility for the maintenance and periodic inspection of fire extinguishing systems rests with the building owner, manager, or a person to whom responsibility has been delegated in writing.

A fire caused by a malfunctioning or deactivated fire extinguishing system can result in loss of life; this places significant responsibility on the employer. Insurance policies also require periodic inspections; failure to conduct these inspections will result in no insurance compensation being paid.

06

TURKAK Accredited Fire Installation Inspection

A TÜRKAK-accredited fire extinguishing system inspection indicates that the inspection body is accredited according to the TS EN ISO/IEC 17020 standard and is capable of performing comprehensive inspections of fire extinguishing systems. Accredited organizations conduct tests by employing mechanical engineers or equivalent technical personnel and using calibrated measuring instruments.

Reports issued by non-accredited organizations are not accepted in Ministry of Labor inspections, local government inspections, licensing processes, and insurance compensation applications. TÜRKAK accreditation guarantees the legal validity of inspection results and their compliance with international standards.

Frequently Asked Questions

According to the Regulation on Health and Safety Conditions in the Use of Work Equipment, fire extinguishing systems must undergo periodic inspections at least once a year. This general rule applies unless otherwise specified in the standards. The same inspection requirement is also stipulated in the Regulation on Fire Protection of Buildings.

Fire extinguishing system inspections include visual inspection (tanks, pumps, pipelines, hydrants, cabinets), flow and pressure measurements, hose tests, alarm system checks, and detection system function tests. Sprinkler systems undergo head inspection and flow rate measurement. All measurements must be performed with calibrated equipment.

Sprinkler system inspections are performed according to the TS EN 12845 standard. Sprinkler heads are tested by visual inspection, and the thermal trigger temperature is verified. Water flow rate measurements, pressure measurements, and alarm tests are carried out. Suppression valve operations are also tested.

Fire pump flow pressure testing is a critical test that determines whether the pump can deliver its nominal flow and pressure values. The pump curve is created by testing the pump under various flow-pressure combinations. Motor starting and operating current are measured; the pump casing is checked under pressure.

Fire cabinets must comply with TS EN 671-1 (semi-rigid hose) or TS EN 671-2 (flat hose) standards. During periodic inspections, the cabinets are tested for openability, hose winding status, and lance functionality. Hose pressure and flow rate measurements are also taken.

TÜRKAK accredited inspections guarantee that the organization provides services in accordance with the TS EN ISO/IEC 17020 standard, ensuring the legal validity of the inspection results. Non-accredited reports are not accepted in official audits and insurance applications. Accreditation verifies technical competence, personnel qualifications, and equipment calibration according to international standards.
